Stock Facilitator

It has been a while since the last blog entry but today, we will eventually start to extend the features of our application and make it a useful tool for trading of stocks. We will ...
  • implement a pull mechanism of stocks data from a data source, ...
  • extend our data model to be more flexible, ...
  • implement a master-detail view for our stocks in order to show all the details that we have loaded.
In our last session,  we had a look at JAVA based view technologys in general and compared 3 different approaches to one another. I want to dedicate todays session to a walk through of the current setup of my develpment environment with freely accessible web tools and services. We will ...
  • have a brief look at GitHub - our source code repository, ...
  • learn how to leverage Travis CI as tool for continuous integration, ...
  • setup Coveralls to publish test coverage statistics of our application, ...
  • explore the possiblities of Codenvy for maintenance of our source code in a cloud IDE

In our last session we've put quite some effort into running our application with a database service in the cloud. Today will be the first time that we don't extend our application with further coding and features.
Instead we will ...

  • get a glimpse on current the open source software licenses (OSS license),
  • make a decision which OSS license we will use for our project,
  • configure STS to include the license text in all our project files and
  • add further documentation to our project
In our last session we have choosen an open source software license for our project and applied that together with further documentation to our existing code base. Today, we will focus again on a more technical topic. We will ...
  • explore the various possiblities to build a presentation layer
  • make a strategic decision regarding the UI framework  to use
  • implement the necessary changes

In our last session we've dealt with spring security to secure part of our application against unauthorized access.
Today, we want to …

  • create an SQL database service in IBM Bluemix,
  • make the service available within our application,
  • tie the authentication mechanism from the last session to the cloud database (using a custom UserDetailsService) and
  • enable database initialization via JPA and Hibernate.

Of course, we will run the application in our local environment and in the cloud.
